“Radius” sets the area to darken or brighten. “Amount” brightens (negative values) or darkens (positive values) the edges. Use this if you want to correct, add or have fun with vignetting. I will talk in another post about this topic. Don’t use Chromatic Aberration Correction. The software looks at the data embedded in your RAW file “Automatically”, but sometimes these data are not present and you’ll notice no changes, so you have to do it by yourself, using the slider. Here you can correct distortion as in profile lens correction, if that didn’t work. If a camera or a lens is not recognized, you have to manually select your camera and lens from the lists if you don’t find your lens you have to correct those parameters by yourself using: How does it work? It should work with all cameras and lenses (the database is updated with every RawTherapee release), click on “Auto-Matched Correction Parameters” and that’s it. Some times if you use “Automatic” distortion correction on a JPEG RawTherapee crashes. However you can use them also on JPEGs, to exaggerate the corrections (I don’t know why you should do so) or when you take pictures with your smartphone using a camera app which is not your phone’s stock camera software: some non-stock camera apps can’t correct these parameters, because they are not programmed to be used on a single specific phone or camera. This section applies to RAW files because JPEGs are already corrected in camera. “Chromatic aberration” is unchecked because it doesn’t usually work, but you can try by checking it. This tool corrects “Distortion”, “Vignetting” automatically based on your camera and lenses. Profiled lens correction and other corrections An ugly example of vertical perspective adjustments using “grid” guidelines to help finding the right vertical line. You can activate “Crop” and select a grid to have a guide for verticalizing building edges. “Perspective” tools is useful for example when you photograph a building from ground and you want to reduce the visual narrowing of that building from bottom to top. You can move the slider holding “Shift” key and rolling the mouse wheel. Rotate image using the slider, “+” and “–” buttons and the other icons on top, digiting grades or drawing a line along a straight structure in the picture (figure 2). “Auto-fill” unchecked (left) and checked or “Auto-Crop” (right). Otherwise you can uncheck it and, after the following adjustments, click on “Auto-crop”.įigure 1. Leave checked “Auto-fill”, so when you rotate o change perspective the image you won’t see black edges. Also the official Darktable forum is on, but it has an “unofficial” Reddit community with 2500+ members and a lot of useful posts.Īnother very interesting post. Please note that the official Rawtherapee forum is on, as said in the description of the subreddit community and mine is an UNOFFICIAL guide to use Rawtherapee.
